Oryx Employees Attend 34th IRMI Construction Risk Conference
Binghamton, NY (November 2014) – Three employees of Oryx Insurance Brokerage, Inc. in Binghamton, NY attended the IRMI Construction Risk Conference. Desiree Cole, CIC, AAI, CRIS, P&C Production Underwriter, Anthony Giovinazzo and Raymond Fitzpatrick, both Safety & Health Professionals traveled to Nashville, TN earlier this month to participate in this year’s Conference.
The IRMI Construction Risk Conference is the only national symposium devoted exclusively to managing, insuring, and bonding the risks of construction projects. The Conference featured 3 general sessions and 35 workshops presented by more than 71 nationally recognized insurance, risk management, safety, and surety experts.
Some of the workshops that the Oryx team attended ranged from Building a World-Class Safety Culture, Fleet Risk Management Strategies and the Impact of New York Labor Law on Construction Insurance. The four day conference is known for providing insight and education on new and complex construction issues. As a long time attendee, the information gathered at the conference allows us to build on our reputation as experts in construction insurance.
“Throughout the four days of conference sessions there were many insights into the coming trends as well as a reinforcement of the tried practices currently being utilized by Oryx”, stated Giovinazzo. He went onto to state that, “It was good to hear from CEO’s of contractors and Carriers alike, that Loss Prevention starts at the top with CEO leadership; leading by example and measuring safety and loss prevention efforts by supervisors and employees alike. Understanding why accidents happen (root cause) and making changes that eliminate those things identified that contributed to the loss is absolutely necessary to moving towards an accident free workplace.”
Cole, who has attended the Conference for several years, stated that all of the sessions were useful, but the closing General Session left the largest impact. “Moderated by the IRMI President, the panel included two leaders from the agency side (Gallagher & Aon) and the President and Head of Construction for two of the largest construction focused Insurance companies (Travelers and Zurich respectively).” The panel touched on a wide range of subjects, trends and projections – all of which I can relate to and utilize when communicating with my customers”.
Having a strong focus on the construction industry, Oryx understands the importance of participating in the conference each year. Jeff Excell, Chief Claims Officer for Oryx Insurance acknowledges the importance of the event; “In addition to Desi attending for years, Oryx’s claims department adjuster’s and many others within the organization have the CRIS designation. As an organization we strongly believe in sponsoring, investing and encouraging our employee’s involvement with IRMI – this involvement ultimately helps our agents and policyholders by ensuring they are receiving the most up to date and cutting edge information.”
